Dr Brama Kone is an Associate Professor in Environmental Epidemiology from the African and Malagasy Council for Higher Education (CAMES) since 2017. He holds a master’s degree in Water Sciences and Technologies, a degree in Sanitary Engineering, a University Diploma in Epidemiology and a PhD in Environmental Epidemiology. Dr Koné is a lecturer of Public Health at the University Peleforo Gon Coulibaly of Korhogo in Côte d’Ivoire (www.upgc.edu.ci), Researcher and Project Leader at the Centre Suisse de Recherches Scientifiques in Côte d’Ivoire (www.csrs.ch) and Associated Lecturer of Disaster Management and Public Health at the University of Lomé (Togo) in the frame of the West African Science Service Centre on Climate Change and Adapted Land Use (WASCAL). He is also Deputy Director in charge of research programs at the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research of Côte d’Ivoire. Dr Kone’s research interests include Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WaSH) and associated health risks as well as adaptation to climate change in WASH and Health Sectors. The last ten years, he leaded 3 research projects in West Africa on adaptation to climate changes in WASH and Health sectors, financed by Canadian IDRC, the Tropical Disease Research program of WHO and the African Academy of Science (AAS). He authored and co-authored some forty peer reviewed papers, book chapters and policy briefs for decision making. Among them is a recent published scientific paper and a policy brief on Covid-19 management, in the frame of the Future Earth Health Knowledge Action Network (Health KAN) activities where Dr Kone sits on the Steering Committee. Also submitted for publication to BMJ is another paper he contributed to on the need of a greener world to prevent other potential coming pandemic. At Côte d’Ivoire country level, Dr Kone coordinated the writing process of the research component of the national response plan to Covid-19, under the leadership of the General Director of Research and the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. Dr Kone is a contact person for consultation on environmental and climate change and health issues in Africa of some international donors and development partners (Welcome Trust, WHO AFRO/PHE, WHO/TDR, IDRC/Former EcoHealth program). He is an active member of the International Society for Environmental Epidemiology, co-chair for Africa Chapter and Honorary member of Côte d’Ivoire Water Sciences and Technologies Association.
