Walaiporn is a pharmacist by training. Since joining IHPP in 2001, she has become a researcher. Her research area on health financing has broadened from the hospital level to the national and regional level. She won a scholarship of Joint-Japan World Bank for her master study in Social Protection Financing at Maastricht University, Netherlands in 2002-03. Subsequently, she got the Dorothy Hodgkin Postgraduate Award in 2004 from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, University of London for her doctoral studies in healthcare financing. She received PhD in Public Health and Policy in 2008. She was on secondment at Health System Financing Department, Health Service System Cluster, World Health Organization, Geneva, Switzerland, during Aug 2011 April 2012 funded by the Thai Government through the Prince Mahidol Award Foundation. She has been appointed as the Director of IHPP since 2017 and recently is appointed, another task, as the Director of Global Health Division of the Ministry of Public Health Thailand. Her main research areas include health financing, universal health coverage, health systems, health policy and global health.
