Indika Mahesh Karunathilake (MBBS (Col.), DMedEd (Dundee), MMedEd (Dundee), FCGP (Hon., SL), FHEA (UK), FCME (SL), FRCP (Edin) is the first ever professor in Medical Education in the University of Colombo, Sri Lanka. Prof. Indika Karunathilake also serves as the Head of the Department of Medical Education, Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo and the WHO Collaborating Centre for Medical Education, Faculty of Medicine. Prof. Indika Karunathilake has conducted extensive research and authored over 60 publications in peer reviewed international journals and over 200 research presentations at international and national level. He is a recipient of President’s Award for Scientific Publications. Prof. Indika has been a resource person in Medical Education for many national, regional and international forums. He also serves as the editor-in-Chief of the South East Asian Journal of Medical Education (SEAJME). Prof. Indika Karunathilake is the current President of Sri Lanka Medical Association, the Apex body for medical professionals in Sri Lanka. He was the Secretary of the Sri Lanka Medical Association (SLMA) in 2008 and 2010, and is among the handful of medical professionals who held this prestigious position more than once. Prof. Karunathilake the founder President of the College of Medical Educationists. He has made significant contribution towards at the regional and global level through several leading international organization such as a consultant for the World Health Organization (WHO), Vice President of Asia Pacific Academic Consortium for Public Health (APACPH) and country representative of South East Regional Association for Medical Education (SEARAME).
