Short Bio: Dr Mohammad Assai Ardakani Senior Adviser to the Minister of Health and Medical Education, I.R of Iran and Former Head of the WHO Country Office Pakistan Dr Assai began the current position after retirement from WHO in Sep 2017. His last position was Head of the WHO country office Pakistan. He served WHO for 19 years out of which 13 years holds the position of Coordinator Integrated Health Services and Regional adviser PHC at WHO/EMRO. Before joining WHO his last position was Senior adviser to deputy Minister for public health and before that he served his own country as Director General Primary Health Care Network System in the Ministry of Health and Medical Education in I.R of Iran. His main area of interest is health system development, policy dialogue and planning and management of PHC. He awarded honorary professor of public health form Khyber Medical University and life membership in the Pakistan Academy of Family Physicians for his tremendous contribution to family medicine program in EMR and particularly Pakistan. He is author of many papers and also co-author of a Global WONCA book on “the contribution of family medicine to improving health system” and had substantial inputs to service delivery and also to the Healthy City Network Initiative in the Eastern Mediterranean Region. Dr Assai holds a Doctorate in Medicine and Surgery from Dow Medical College, Karachi - Pakistan as well as Master of Public Health from Dundee University of Scotland.
